Yesterday, May 8, was International Day against
ovarian cancer. So today we dedicate our post to all those women who have
suffered this type of cancer.
My mother, Susi, a woman who last summer beats an ovarian cancer, has answered some questions related to this disease and physical activity. She underwent surger in July and began chemotherapy in September.
Did you exercise during chemotherapy?
Yes, but always very gentle exercise. I went for a walk but very slowly. I got tired quickly by total hysterectomy they did to me.
How often you used to go for a walk?
I don’t know, as long as my body would allow me because often I was exhausted and discouraged.
It's been five months since your last chemotherapy session. Have you increased the intensity of physical exercise?
Yes, as the months go by, I'm going up the timing and distance. Furthermore I walk more often. Now I at least four days a week and when I can go out 2 times a day.
Do you do anything besides walking?
Yes, when I have time because I'm back to work. I go to a park where there's exercise equipment when I finish walking, or jump rope.
What benefit has given you exercise after treatment?
Taking my concerns and being lighter. I've been more swollen by treatment but I feel more agile doing physical exercise.
Do you feel in the mood to do some other physical activity? Have you raised start running?
Yes, I'm trying to run some stretch, but I’ve thought increasingly run away. I also want to start doing isometric abdominal.
I will return in aquagym classes because last summer I couldn’t do it due to cancer’s symptoms.
Sure, Mom. This summer we’ll do everything we couldn’t do last . Thank you for taking the time to our blog.
